Stop Chasing Symptoms

December 4, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

Isn’t it time you stopped chasing symptoms? These signals that you get from your body are frequently misunderstood. More importantly, treating symptoms without getting to the cause of a problem can lead to mismanagement of your health and more severe health problems as you age.

When you get sick, for example, and your temperature goes up, your body is naturally fighting off the infection. Bacteria thrive in a climate that is 98.6 degrees so your body’s Innate Intelligence raises your temperature to help fight off the infection on its own. The symptoms of this elevated temperature can be muscle aches, fatigue, weakness and general malaise. At the first sign or symptom of a fever, many people will immediately panic and try to bring the temperature down with medication, treating the symptoms rather than letting the body do its job and heal itself.

The medications that are used to treat these symptoms can lead to side effects and even weaken the body’s natural immunity. In recent years, the overuse of antibiotics has created an epidemic of superbugs within individuals that are untreatable and pose a serious threat to our long term health.

The CDC states, “If antibiotics are used too often for things they can’t treat-like colds or other viral infections-they can stop working effectively. Antibiotic resistance has been a concern for years and is considered one of the world’s most critical public health threats. Widespread overuse and inappropriate use of antibiotics is fueling an increase in antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

In the U.S., antibiotic-resistant infections are responsible for $20 billion in excess healthcare costs, $35 billion in societal costs and $8 million in additional hospital days.”(1)

A report commissioned by the Canadian Coordinating Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance estimated that infections caused by antibiotic-resistant organisms increased direct hospital costs in Canada by $15-25 million annually(2).

Many experts say that it is better to give the body a chance to heal itself with rest and fluids along with chiropractic adjustments that remove pressure from the nervous system. Unless there is an extreme elevation in body temperature, and depending on other symptoms, allowing your body to heal itself naturally helps your immune system build the resistance it needs to keep you healthy and fight infections more effectively.

Consider the case for “referred pain.” This means you can feel a symptom in one part of your body while the cause or the origin of that pain is somewhere else. For example, very often the cause of arm, hand or finger pain is in the neck. Leg and foot pain will often originate from a problem in the back. Problems with the gallbladder will often refer pain to the spinal nerve roots in the middle part of the spine and vice versa.

Because chiropractic works to restore health and vitality to the nervous system, we are always amazed at how the entire body often becomes free of symptoms through our work with the spine. Since nerves control every cell, tissue and organ of your body, problems in the nervous system can cause or mimic nearly any and every symptom imaginable.

It is very common to hear our practice members say things like “I know I came because my neck hurt, and my allergies and headaches are gone too.” or “I didn’t even tell you about my menstrual cramping but since I’ve been getting adjusted, my cramps have been reduced dramatically.” or “I sleep so much better since beginning my care.”

The list goes on and on. Isn’t it time you stop chasing symptoms and get to the cause? You will enjoy a much healthier life when you do.

The 100 Year Old Woman Who Died at 82

December 4, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

This is an interesting story of a 100-year-old woman who died at 82. When she was conceived, just like you, 23 chromosomes from her mother and 23 chromosomes from her father united to make her a unique human being with the innate potential to live an active, healthy, quality life to 100 years of age and beyond.

Unfortunately, she was injured during the birth process. Pulling and twisting on her neck and spine caused a vertebral subluxation, placing pressure on her spinal cord and nerves. Since there was no bruising that was visible on the outside of her body, the injury went unnoticed and the newborn went home from the hospital on time.

Underneath her skin, this injury caused a disruption of the nerve supply between the brain and the body and her internal communication signals became distorted. Her stomach became sensitive to foods, and her first year of life was filled with numerous colds and ear infections that her parents and the pediatrician considered “normal”. She was given multiple doses of antibiotics and her symptoms came and went. Over the course of this first year, her underlying spinal injury caused her bones to develop unevenly, her nerve supply to be compromised, and her innate healing capacity to be altered.

During her toddler years, she fell a lot through playing and exploring her environment. This repetitive trauma caused additional areas in her spine to become imbalanced, causing more pressure on her nerves. While they were not enough to cause her a “backache”, the pressure was enough to cause her body to function abnormally. After all, research shows that nerve root compression can exist without pain and mild pressure can reduce nerve transmission. Deterioration can begin within two weeks.

As a teenager, she began to experience hormonal changes in her body which for unexplainable reasons were causing difficult menstrual cycles and severe acne.

Her caregivers labeled her as anemic since she was prone to overall weakness and dizziness. Her parents didn’t even think about removing the pressure from the spine and restoring the normal nerve supply to her body. Instead, they were scared into giving their child monthly treatments used for birth control. This symptomatic treatment approach seemed to work for a while, but each time she went off the hormones, their daughter’s symptoms became worse. Eventually, in her early 30’s, she suffered several miscarriages, was diagnosed with clinical depression and began taking an anti-depressant. As her symptoms and conditions multiplied, so did her medications. Even more significant, the pressure on the nerves had been there for decades of two weeks.

To make a long story short, what could have been a long healthy life, ended as a shorter, sicker one. This pattern of treating symptoms rather than eliminating the cause continued throughout her lifetime. Her body could never get centered. Her spine and nervous system were never balanced. Rather than thriving and enjoying good health, her body deteriorated over time.

The last decade of her life, she was unable to appreciate her family or travel far from home. Her savings dwindled while the cost of her medications and treatments rose. She spent the last five years dying a painful, deteriorating death in a nursing home instead of experiencing the quality of life that her body’s Innate Potential could have provided.

This woman’s story should not have started or ended like this. An immediate spinal examination after her birth and throughout her lifetime may have contributed to a much different life. How many two weeks will you wait? Whether your destiny is to live to 82 or 100 years and beyond, make them quality years and enjoy good health every day along the way with Chiropractic Lifestyle Care. Regardless of your age, Chiropractic Care will help you keep your spine and nerve system healthy and your body expressing its full potential.

The Healing Power Within You

December 4, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

If you are in pain or suffering from a health problem, then the greatest gift you can receive is to discover and release the healing power within you. This healing power is the same vitalistic energy that grew you from one cell at the moment of conception to over 80 quadrillion cells that are perfectly placed, organized and orchestrated in you as an adult.

Chiropractic works with this innate healing power, your Innate Intelligence, to help you recover quickly from injuries and enjoy the quality lifestyle you deserve throughout your life.

How does this happen?

Your nervous system is the master control system of your body and healing energy flows over this network. With over 45 miles of nerves delivering over 3 million messages per second between your brain and every one of your cells, this pathway between your brain and body must be healthy for you to function properly. This pathway must also be clear for you to heal if you have been injured or you are sick.

Unfortunately, this communication pathway can experience interference. Nerve Interference that occurs in the spine is called a vertebral subluxation. Research out of the University of Colorado has shown that the weight of a dime can reduce nerve transmission.”Only five to ten millimeters of pressure can interfere with the nutrition of a nerve, starving it of nutrients,” reports the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics.”Deterioration can occur within two weeks,” according to Dr. Videman’s research out of Finland.

Lifestyle Interference results from poor health habits such as overeating, poor nutrition, excessive drinking, taking prescription or non-prescription drugs, or sitting too much. Environmental Interference can be caused by toxicity from air, food, water, or chemicals, as well as accidents or natural disasters. All three types of interference can cause pressure in your spine and nervous system and affect your health on every level.

Rather than releasing the healing power within them, too many people treat their symptoms with over the counter and prescription drugs while the underlying cause, the interference, remains in their system and accumulates damage for decades. This has short and long term consequences.

The great thing is that as long as you are alive and breathing, and there is life flowing over your nervous system, this healing power stays within you, just waiting for you to get the interference out of the way. When you do, it goes to work and does its job! With consistency, not only can your body heal to the point where you feel better, your health can stabilize and your body can also regenerate.

How many weeks have you or your loved ones spent where you are waiting, hoping and praying for health problems to go away.

Everyone deserves to be healthy and express their full potential from the time they are born through their last breath of life. This includes you. Release the healing power within you and enjoy the quality of life you want for a lifetime.

Painful Days, Sleepless Nights

December 4, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

Pain can ruin your life. Whether it comes and goes in an unpredictable fashion or whether it is constant, having to manage and deal with pain on a regular basis can be exhausting. As pain becomes chronic, the joy of living disappears. Pain can take many forms including headaches, neck or arm pain, back and leg pain, stomach pain, sinus pain, and literally any or every other part of your body.

Pain that comes and goes, rollercoaster pain, is tiring and frustrating. You can’t plan your life because you never know if you are going to hurt. Before you know it, the pain, or the medication you may take to mask the pain or sleep, begins to control your life.

The challenge of this rollercoaster pain is that many people only take care of themselves when the pain reaches a point of severity that you might consider a crisis. The typical protocol in this situation is to stop your life, deal with the crisis through quick fixes such as a couple of chiropractic adjustments, or popping a bunch of pills to get some immediate relief. When the relief comes and you can rest, you are so excited to feel better that you stop taking care of yourself until it hurts again.

Here’s a little secret: in most cases when the pain is gone, the cause of the pain is still there. If you want to get off the rollercoaster you must continue doing the things that will give your body a chance to heal itself even though you feel better.

In The 100 Year Lifestyle Paradigm, we call this the Critical Transition. The Critical Transition is critical because it is when you commit to being consistent with your chiropractic care and healthy lifestyle regardless of how you feel so that your body can regenerate. This takes time.

This is like the person who finally reaches their goal weight and decides to continue eating healthy and exercising rather than reverting back to old habits that caused them to gain weight in the first place. Staying consistent when you feel better is life changing. This is the Critical Transition.

The same is true if you have acute pain. No matter what part of your body has been affected, acute pain comes suddenly with incredible suffering and inconvenience. Many people who have this type of pain will often say things like “I felt twinges there before ” or “periodically I would feel a _______.” These may be signs that an acute crisis is looming and there is an underlying cause you should address.

Chiropractic care is very effective in helping people eliminate both rollercoaster and acute pain by working with your body’s innate ability to heal regardless of how you feel. Nerve interference can cause pain in any body part as well as contribute to all types of health problems. It can also exist without pain and lie dormant for decades until your body completely breaks down.

Don’t let this happen to you. Too many people have said these powerful words, “I am in so much pain I can’t even sleep. Please help me.”
Pain doesn’t have to control your life anymore. Through this New.You. campaign, we encourage you to take a new approach to taking your pain away and then make the Critical Transition to Lifestyle Care.

A New You is only a decision away. Make the commitment to you. You will be glad you did.

Tylenol is Not Candy

December 4, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

For many people, at the first sign of a fever, headache or other minor discomfort, the “go-to” remedy is acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol. Since pain is a sign that something is wrong, covering up the symptoms without getting to the cause is not a good plan and often creates more serious problems. Helping the body to heal itself without drugs is a much better option.

Google “acetaminophen dangers” and see what comes up. The results are scary, especially if you take acetaminophen like candy. According to the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, “some symptoms of acetaminophen overdose mimic flu-like symptoms, resulting in the individual continuing to use acetaminophen.”(1) It is scary to know that the symptoms of an overdose might cause you to take even more and aggravate the problems.

Tylenol is not candy! Is the risk of extreme side effects and liver damage worth taking a quick fix drug that has the potential to quickly and permanently make things worse? Drugs.com provides 12 pages of side effects from Tylenol and other acetaminophen based drugs ranging from unpleasant digestive issues and mood swings to seizures, hives and dizziness.

“Acetaminophen overdose is one of the most common poisonings worldwide. People often think that this pain-relieving medicine is extremely safe. However, it may be deadly,” says the U.S. National Library of Medicine.(3) Since we humans come in all shapes and sizes, the standard dose for one may not be right for another and let’s be honest: How many people really wait 4-6 hours before taking the next dosage?

On WebMD’s internationally recognized website, an article entitled Acetaminophen (Tylenol) Poisoning by Dr. Michael Ameres and Dr. Daniel Crough states that, “Too much acetaminophen can overwhelm the way the liver normally functions.”(2) So how much is too much?

Slightly increasing the recommended dose can be dangerous and can happen unintentionally. McNeil Consumer Healthcare issued a press release in July 2011 announcing plans for new dosing instructions. Tylenol’s recommended dose per day is being dropped by 1000mg because of people taking other medications that have acetaminophen as an added compound.

Recently published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, a research project by Dr. Kenneth Simpson of the University of Edinburgh revealed little known information about the dangers of “staggered overdose.” The research indicates, “People experiencing pain who repeatedly take slightly more Tylenol than they should are in danger of suffering a staggered overdose. They haven’t taken a massive overdose taken by people who try to commit suicide, but over time the damage builds up and the effect can be fatal. These patients were more likely to have liver and brain problems, require kidney dialysis and were at a greater risk of dying that people who had take a single overdose.”(4)

Instead of reaching for the pill bottle or the tablespoon to measure out the next dose, and risking taking too much or giving too much to a loved one, contact your 100 Year Lifestyle Provider or go to www.100yearlifestyle .com to find a provider near you and experience how Chiropractic Care can help you live the healthy drug free lifestyle you deserve.
