Avoid This Dangerous Holiday Duo

November 27, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

Alcohol and prescription drugs are a dangerous combination. While celebrities are the most popular victims, too many people are affected by this bad combination. With the holidays coming up, this knowledge can even save the life of someone important to you.

Both prescription and non-prescription drugs do not mix with alcohol. Too many people take medications on a regular basis – daily, weekly or monthly – and are unaware of the damaging effects that can be caused by adding alcohol into the mix.

During the holidays, people tend to consume more alcohol. The combination of even small amounts of alcohol with many medications can result in adverse reactions within the body that can lead to severe health problems, and in the worst case scenario, even death. Your awareness about this issue brings responsible drinking to a whole new level.

A few examples include
– Medications used for ADHD or sleep disorders, such as Adderall, may actually circumvent the body’s normal warning systems and can mislead the person to unknowingly drink a dangerous amount of alcohol.

– Acetaminophen is listed as a Major Drug Interaction with alcohol and can result in liver damage, even from small amounts of this combination. This is the medicine found in over the counter drugs such as Tylenol and the widely used Cold Medicine, Nyquil.

– An antibiotic like Bactrim, Flagyl, or Tindamax should not be mixed with alcohol because it can cause severe reactions such as nausea and vomiting, headache, and rapid heart rate.

With other antibiotics, the immediate effects may be less severe but your energy can be reduced and delay how quickly you recover from illness.

Even in small amounts, alcohol may intensify medication side effects such as sleepiness, drowsiness, and light-headedness. The risk of serious injury or fatality when operating a vehicle or machinery is magnified and reaction time to prevent harm may be diminished.

Medications consumed by adults over the age of 65, many of whom already have balance issues and an increased risk of falls, can raise the risk when combined with even a small serving of alcohol.

The combination of medicine and alcohol should be avoided at all costs. If you are taking medication prescribed by a doctor, do your homework to learn about the potential reactions that may occur and avoid them.

When hosting a party or meal during the holidays, offer a variety of beverages to provide non-alcoholic, healthy choices to those who may need to avoid alcohol consumption. When attending as a guest, if you know you are at risk, offer to provide a non-alcoholic beverage to share as part of your contribution to the gathering.

You may read this and at first thought presume that the alcohol is the problem. For many, however, it’s the prescription and non-prescription drug use that is the problem. Millions of people each year are discovering that drugs are not the answer for long term health. As they become aware that long term drug usage can lead to severe side effects, they are making healthier lifestyle choices, 100 Year Lifestyle choices that include good nutrition, exercise, and a healthy spine and nervous system through chiropractic Lifestyle Care.

Avoid this dangerous mix, make healthier choices, and make this the healthiest holiday season ever.

Flying Above Media Propoganda

November 27, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

The battle for health care dollars has gone out of control and so has the rise of medical costs. The 2012 Deloitte Study found that the U.S. Health Care budget for 2013 was over $3 trillion. The entire Medicare budget was $586 billion. The Canadian Health Care budget is approximately $30 billion. Staggering numbers!

The first thing you see when you fly above the propaganda and gain a 30,000 foot perspective is that these dollars are not spent on health. They are spent for the treatment of sickness, illness, pain, and suffering. They are spent on the cost of dying in peace.

While healing of the sick and suffering is certainly extremely important, it becomes increasingly clear when you look at the amount spent that you cannot afford to get sick. Staying healthy must be your top priority.

Second, the wasteful medical spending is ridiculous. According to The Institute of Medicine, The United States spent $750 billion dollars, or 30percent of its budget, on waste. This is an absurd amount. It should make individual consumers like you aware that sustaining optimum health must become your personal responsibility. With this concept in mind, tens of millions of people are turning to Doctors of Chiropractic and other holistic health care professionals for themselves and their families.

Think about it. If you were an employee of a company that was wasting 30 percent of its budget and you were watching your overall company costs skyrocket, would you continue to maintain trust in the leadership of the company? Wouldn’t you begin to look for new leadership?

Go back to that 30,000 foot perspective and look at some recent data available through World Factbook. Over the last six years the United States life expectancy ranking has grown worse (from 37th to 51st) while infant mortality has also moved the wrong direction in rank (now 44th compared to other industrialized nations).

The constant propaganda put out by the medical industry distracts the public from healthier options so that it can retain its monopoly on the minds of the people. As a health care consumer it is important for you to bypass the bologna, the commercials and the biased headlines. Read, research, listen, and make choices that are right for you and your family. For many of you reading this article, the choices include Chiropractic Lifestyle Care.

Chiropractic is a 14 billion dollar industry, less than half of one percent of the total health care budget. The truth is while Medicare and many insurance companies partially cover chiropractic care for a crisis, the majority of people who visit Doctors of Chiropractic for Lifestyle Care choose to pay for this care out of their own pocket. These people invest in their health. They realize their health is their responsibility and a healthy spine and nervous system is essential through every phase of life.

For example, a June 26, 2013 report by the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress entitled “Accountable Care Organizations Optimizations, Cost Savings and Patient Satisfaction With Chiropractic Care”, the average cost of low back pain care was 12.5 percent lower for the group with chiropractic coverage inclusion. The report also states “injured workers with low back problems have a 42.7 percent chance of having spinal surgery if their primary caregiver for this condition was a surgeon. However, if chiropractic was used, the number of patients who eventually have expensive spinal surgery drops to only 1.5 percent.”

Based on patient success and results, the investment in chiropractic care needs to grow. While chiropractors do not treat back pain per se, by correcting spine and nervous system imbalances, subluxations, the body can heal itself more effectively.

As it says in The 100 Year Lifestyle, “Everyone deserves to be healthy and express their full potential from the time they are born through their last breath of life. This includes you.” See you at your next appointment.

Explaining Unexplainable Health Problems

November 15, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

Unexplainable health problems can be very frustrating. Often times, the answers can be traced back to your childhood.

Think about this! How many times a day do young children fall? According to Introduction to Infant Development, fourteen-month-old toddlers can fall an average of fifteen times per hour while playing, up to 100 times a day.

These cumulative and repetitive bumps on the bottom can cause problems in the spine and nervous system that alter development, posture and the function of the nervous system contributing to unexplainable health problems immediately and down the road. Similar problems can be caused by birth trauma, poor sleep patterns, smart phones and sports injuries, as well as chemical and emotional stress.

In fact, “Medically Unknown Symptoms” [MUS] is a common term used to explain many unexplainable symptoms such as pain, irritable bowel, non-cardiac chest pain and fibromyalgia for which there are no medical examination findings [Hatcher, S, Arrol B. Assessment and management of medically unexplained symptoms. BMJ 2008; 336:1124].

Some studies have even found the prevalence of MUS to be in the range 25 to 75 percent [Smith RC, Dwamena FC. Classification and diagnosis of patients with medically unexplained symptoms. J Gen Intern Med 2007; 22:685].

Explaining the Unexplainable

The nervous system controls and coordinates the function of every cell, tissue and organ of the body, and adapts you to your environment. Injuries to a child’s spine and nervous system can be subtle and are often missed during traditional medical examinations. The symptoms can mimic the most common childhood diagnoses such as ear infections, colic, allergies and growing pains, or they can lie dormant and asymptomatic for decades leading to decay and deterioration down the road.

While toddlers are young and flexible, the sheer quantity and variety of these microtraumas can injure the spine and nervous system causing uneven growth and developmental patterns that lead to lifelong problems and unhealthy aging.

Chiropractic examinations can uniquely assess the health of your child’s spine and nervous system and, in many cases, explain the unexplainable. Every person should have one regardless of their age.

These non-invasive evaluations can determine alignment, locate inflammation and identify nervous system pressure, dysfunction, imbalance and interference that can affect a child’s health, development and emotions, as well as their ability to focus and function normally.

Immediate and long-term solutions to unexplainable health concerns may be more readily available than you think. If you are an adult with unexplainable health problems, chances are that your childhood may be catching up with you today.

Avoiding unexplainable health problems with Lifestyle Care is an even better, more proactive approach. Don’t wait for a crisis to force you to act. Schedule your examination today.
